Have been looking around for chalk in the local area without much luck. However have you explored the use of artificial turf?? I belive that prices range from £10 a square metre upwards and is available in white. Just a thought.

If this is true do you think we should nip this in the pod.

| | Date: | Fri 24 Apr 2009 14:41:54 BST | | Subject: | My first Microlight Flight | | | Hi everyone at AAA Microlight Training School, I would like to thank you all for the fun and excitement of the memorable aircraft flight I had recently when I experienced my first Microlight flight at your Chatteris Airfield.
Despite many, many, thousands of miles flying all over the world as part of my Business Development management role with the British Standards Institution before retirement last year I have to admit to being a little apprehensive although very enthusiastic in anticipating this new venture. On arrival at the airfield for Dave’s birthday party on 5th April it was apparent from the body language and looks on the faces of Dave, Tony and Angie, Pat and Simon that this was to be the day of my first Microlight flight!!
For a first flight effectively in the open air and exposed to the elements without the usual global carrier pre-flight and in-flight arrangements, of being seated in an air-conditioned fully enclosed cabin this was to be an experience to savour. After pre-flight briefings Chris rapidly climbed up to around 2000feet, and showing me many of the local land features on the way up and the how far you could clearly see on each horizon. We had a good view of Grafham Water, The Wash at Kings Lynn and the brickworks in the Peterborough area. I was fascinated with views of the fields, the woodlands, the rivers, the washes, the residue of history (Old earthwork land scars and the areas of population. Chris then proceeded to demonstrate all the controls and how to fly the aircraft with banking, climbing, descending and finally showing very clearly what a magnificent designed aircraft the GT450 is by putting it in various situations and showing how it would stabilise itself without any pilot intervention. Chris then said to me, you take the controls!! I found controlling the height, direction and attitude of the aircraft a lifetime memorable experience and of course having been given immense confidence and knowledge by Chris was delighted to see the aircraft respond. Gentle and considered movement is undoubtedly the key to successful flying and I appeared to please Chris with my approach. Chris then, to my complete surprise proceeded to demonstrate, with a controlled engine stall situation how the aircraft recovered into a level and stabilised flight path. For me this was a perfect approach to demonstrating absolute safety and controlled flight management.
We then climbed to cloud base level at 5000feet before entering the cloud cover and flying between cloud formations enabling Chris to encourage me to take the flight control bar and aim towards gaps in the clouds and in the process banking, climbing and descending. This pilot managed, controlled freedom to manoeuvre gave me the opportunity to fulfil many of those childhood dreams. Wonderful!!
Before coming into land having yet again given careful consideration to wind speed and direction Chris performed a low level pass across the airfield but fortunately for me no victory rolls over the hangar this time!! Finally, I would like to take the opportunity to say a very sincere thanks to Dave, Sue and Mark for this flight opportunity and offer my grateful thanks to Chris for a most enjoyable flight experience in the company of such a considerate and professional man.
All the best everyone, hope to see you all soon, Tom H

| | Date: | Tue 19 Feb 2008 08:31:52 GMT | | Subject: | 2008 | | | We are off to a good start for 2008. The aircraft are all freshly permitted and serviced for the season. The C42 having had a new starboard wing skin and its carburettors overhauled. The weather has been typical for the early part of the year and has held up flying as per normal ! Frustrating but it's the penalty we pay for living in this part of the world. As the spring evolves we will receive the new batch of students and the cycle will begin again. Some are waiting for the weather to enable them to do their cross countries and finish their training of course. We still maintain a perfect safety record and wish this to continue. As our freshly qualified pilots gain experience it's important they learn from previous pilots experience and remain vigilant with their checks and airmanship. Lets watch what happens around us and not be afraid to intervene with others should we need to for safetys sake. It's great to see how all at the field are willing to help each other out and offer advice. Thats what makes flying so enjoyable. Both Gordon and myself will be flying to Popham this year and anyone wishing to join us will be welcome. Chris. | | | | | |
